Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, President of the General Women’s Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman Family Development Foundation, Mother of the Nation  - may God protect her - launched the inaugural Fatima Bint Mubarak Women Sports Awards in 2012. The Awards form part of Her Highness’s efforts to support the grassroots sports scene in the UAE and in particular, Abu Dhabi.

The Awards also enjoy great support and interest from Sheikha Fatima bint Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy, and President of the Abu Dhabi and Al Ain Ladies’ Clubs. 

Being the first of its kind in the region, the Fatima Bint Mubarak Women Sports Awards have garnered much attention from the Arab women’s sports community.  Through its various categories, it aims to empower women athletes and highlight their achievements sports over an entire year. Additionally, the Awards strive to improve participation and enhance competitiveness in the women’s sports scene by providing a motivating and supportive environment for women athletes to improve their performances to advanced levels.

The Fatima Bint Mubarak Women Sports Awards honours Emirati and Arab sportswomen who have achieved outstanding results in sporting events and left lasting impressions in various sports fields.

The awards are valued at AED 1.8 million and distributed among eight categories: Best Arab Women Athlete, Best Emirati Women Athlete, Best Youth Athlete, Best Paralympic Athlete, Best Female/Male Coach, Best Sports Mother, Best Sports Media, and Best Team.

Lastly, the jury allocates a special award to honour the Arab Sport Personality of the Year, a beacon of excellence in the Arab sports world whose distinguished performance and contributions to supporting women’s sports have set her apart from her peers.

The winners of the Fatima Bint Mubarak Women Sports Awards are honoured in a large annual ceremony attended by a number of distinguished and prominent Emirati and Arab dignitaries, as well as a group of the winners' families and friends. The ceremony highlights the winners’ achievements and illustrious careers in various sports fields.

This interpretive guide aims to introduce applicants to the Awards and clarify its objectives, categories, criteria, and evaluation methodology, as well as a number of necessary components that will help them complete the nomination application with accuracy.

Abu Dhabi Sports Council

The Abu Dhabi Sports Council, pursuant to Resolution No. 16 of 2006 issued by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, may God protect him, was established under the vision of the UAE’s wise leadership. The Council aims to grow the sports and youth activities sector by developing sports clubs and institutions in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy

Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy is a non-profit government entity based in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, the capital of the UAE. The Academy was established in October 2010, and its board of directors is chaired by Sheikha Fatima bint Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Supreme Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy, President of the Abu Dhabi and Al Ain Ladies’ Club.

The Academy is dedicated to facilitating and furthering the practice of women’s sports in the UAE, under the generous patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, President of the General Women’s Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman Family Development Foundation, Mother of the Nation, may God protect her. It aims to establish the practice of sports in the daily lives of Emirati women of all ages, backgrounds and physical conditions, ensuring that they adopt healthy and physically active habits, while also promoting the values of sportsmanship.

The Academy undertakes this great mission by hosting many local, regional and international sporting events, facilitating community activities, and managing and developing local talent. They work alongside and in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, as well as other government entities and sports federations, to deliver on their objectives.
