About UAE

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a beautiful country with rich culture, diverse natural bounty and exciting opportunities. The UAE is a marvelous blend of fast-paced modernization intertwined with deep-rooted cultural reverence. Formed as a federation of seven emirates (Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Umm Al Quwain), the UAE came together as one nation on the 2nd of December 1971. Since then, the 2nd of December is celebrated as the UAE National Day.

H.H. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan is the current President of the UAE. He is also the Ruler of Abu Dhabi, which is the capital of the UAE. The Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE is H.H Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who is also the ruler of Dubai.

WHERE IS IT LOCATED?

Located along the eastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula. UAE is one of the Gulf Co-operation Council states (GCC). It is bordered by Saudi Arabia to the west and south and by Oman to the east and northeast. It occupies a total of about 83,600 square kilometres (32,278 square miles), a total coastline of 1,318 kilometres (819.0 miles) and contains over 200 islands.

POPULATION AND RELIGION

The United Arab Emirates is one of the most cosmopolitan countries in the world. Approximately 9.89 million people (2020 estimate) from all over the Arab world, Asia, Europe, Africa and America call UAE their home. Approximately, 88% of the population are non-UAE nationals. The majority of the population are Muslim, but Christianity, Hinduism, etc. are also found. The official language of the UAE is Arabic, however you feel comfortable speaking English to anyone in the country.

CURRENCY

The currency used in the United Arab Emirates is called the Dirham or AED. The sub unit of a Dirham is a fil and 100 fils equal 1 Dirham. The Dirham is pegged to the US Dollar at a steady exchange rate of US$ 1 = AED 3.6725, though banks, hotels, and airports normally exchange it at 3.65.

WEATHER

Be prepared to enjoy some great weather when you travel to the UAE for the ICSW and Fatima bint Mubarak World Sports Awards, as in the winter (October to March), days will be sunny and pleasant with an average of 26°C (79°F), while nights are cool with an average of 15°C (59°F). Summer (April to September) temperatures in the UAE will be higher, varying between 38-48°C (100-118°F) in the daytime while at night it will very between 26-30°C (79-86°F) with high humidity levels.
